Literacy rate of Pakistan is currently 58%. Pakistan spends approximately 2.6% of its GDP on education. It is slightly lesser than how much India spends on education, which is 3.8%. Still, India has literacy rate of 69%. Even Bangladesh spends 2.2% of its budget on education, but they have literacy rate 72.8 percent. So we need more efforts also with more funds to increase literacy rate in our country.
No country can Survive without education. More educated the nation will, more developed the country would be. Today America is super power not just because they are wealthier. There are more intellectual houses than any other country in this world.
Punjab is most populated province of Pakistan with approximate population of 100 million people. Punjab also has highest literacy rate than other provinces of Pakistan. The Literacy rate in Punjab is 59%, Sindh 48%, KPK 53% and Baluchistan is at just 33%.

Although the Punjab government is making more efforts than any other provincial government of Pakistan to improve quality of education by providing more and more facilities in schools. But they face many challenges ahead. Low salaries of teachers, dropouts, child labor, poverty are major causes for failure of 100% literacy race target.
